Why Do We Exercise?
Why Do We Exercise Anyway?
As the New Year approaches, many of us are starting to think about our fitness goals for 2011. Every year we pledge to be more committed than we were last year. Then, we beat ourselves up when we fall short of our lofty goals. Or, we get frustrated and give up when we aren’t reaching our goals quickly enough. All of this got me thinking, “Why do we exercise anyway?” Why do we do something that hurts–something that we often dread?
We start off the New Year with specific goals–things such as weight loss, toning and firming and muscle development. We get so caught up in reaching the goal that we often start to feel frustrated when we don’t see immediate results.
When you begin thinking about your fitness goals for 2011, I’d like for you to take another approach and think differently about why we exercise. This year take into account all the milestones you reach on the way to the ultimate goal.
By working out on a regular basis you are accomplishing so much more than weight loss and toning…you are lowering your blood pressure, increasing your energy, improving your posture and lessening your risk for a stroke or heart disease. The reason we exercise is really a basic need, as important to us as food, clothing and shelter.
In 2011, rather than approaching exercise as a tool to reach a specific goal, let’s approach it as the most important thing we can do for ourselves and our family. Exercise can change our lives, extend our lives and in many cases save our lives. Goals are great and we all need goals but remember that as you work towards your goals, you are improving your health each day! So, why exercise? Because it’s the most important thing we can do each day for ourselves and our family.

Member Spotlight
As many of you know, on December 4th Dallas hosted the White Rock Marathon. We had several PAC members compete in the event and we want to say congratulations to all of them for their accomplishments! We would like to offer special congratulations to Laurie Shea who placed 5th in the women’s category, 1st in her age group and 89th overall. Laurie’s time was 3:04:38. Wow! What an accomplishment!
Friday Night at Main Event
The entire PAC Fitness staff will be celebrating the holidays this Friday, December 10th beginning at 9:00 p.m. at Main Event in Frisco. We would love for our members to join us as well. So if you don’t have any plans Friday night, come join us for some bowling, pool and socializing!
Members Helping Out
There are many families in our community in need of some extra help at the holidays. PAC Fitness wants to do our part to help out. We have set-up a box in our lobby for new toys, toiletries and food items. If you would like to make a donation, please feel free to drop your items off during our normal business hours. We will be delivering the food and toiletries to Bethlehem Place and the toys to the Prosper Fire Department’s Angel Tree every Tuesday.
The Perfect Gift
What better gift to give a loved one than the gift of health! We will have PAC Fitness gift certificates available for purchase this holiday season. Gift certificates can be used for massage therapy, personal training, memberships, supplements and other retail products. Please call us at 972-347-9009 or stop by the front desk for more details.
Housekeeping
Please keep in mind that our lockers are meant for day use only. Beginning December 13th, we will remove any locks left on lockers at the end of each business day. The contents of the locker will be placed into lost and found. At the beginning of each month, we donate all items in the lost and found to charity, so please remember to remove your items after each workout.
At PAC Fitness we are committed to changing lives! Please let us know how we can help you achieve your health and fitness goals. Happy Holidays!
John and all your friends at PAC Fitness
